Posts Tagged “social media”

I couldn’t keep my hands out of podcasting for long and with my new found love of all things social networking along with years of experience being in the game long before it was called social networking (heck, long before the Internet was mainstream!)… what better topic put on a show about?

Already up to episode 2 (old episodes available) I present to you . . .

The World Is My Network!

A podcast covering all things social media and social networking from a “lifestyles” perspective. Enough geek-goodness to keep it real with enough music and beer to keep it fun.

OutTwit

The first paragraph of their website says it all!

If you are an Outlook user, you probably have it open all the time. Now you can update your Twitter status and follow your friends without having to open any other applications. OutTwit seamlessly integrates Twitter into Outlook.

I’ve been a fan of Snitter for a while now and was really apprehensive that their could be an app that could pull me away. If it wasn’t for how well I’ve integrated Microsoft Outlook into my daily planning there would be no reason for me to switch.

OutTwit was an effortless install and so far, other then some idiosyncrasies inherent with Outlook itself it really runs great.

Your Tweets appear as messages within Outlook’s mail section and you can manage them just as you would any other message.  Now the quirky thing for me is that I’m used to dealing with Email, not messages so it is somewhat of a different beast.  My main difficulty is that I can’t seem to get a notification when a new tweet arrives, rules don’t seem to work.  But I’m inclined to think I’m simply missing something within outlook.

THIS JUST IN 3/21/2008:  WOOT WOOT - Thank You Alex!!!

We have just released a new version of OutTwit, which has a “Play a sound on new tweets” feature.

Oh and I almost forgot, you get some really nifty statistics too.  My my I never realized how much I can spew sometimes! LOL

In any case, if you regularly use Outlook and Twitter this software is certainly worth a try!
