I couldn’t keep my hands out of podcasting for long and with my new found love of all things social networking along with years of experience being in the game long before it was called social networking (heck, long before the Internet was mainstream!)… what better topic put on a show about?

Already up to episode 2 (old episodes available) I present to you . . .

The World Is My Network!

A podcast covering all things social media and social networking from a “lifestyles” perspective. Enough geek-goodness to keep it real with enough music and beer to keep it fun.

Check out the TWIMN podcast today! Available via RSS or direct listening from the website.

As our follow list grows on the Twitter network, it becomes increasingly difficult to spot the hot and not-so-hot links. Often by the time you discover the latest buzz it’s been cross-posted to death and if you’re a blogger, well you missed the boat on the story.

Here’s where AlphaTwitter.com comes to the rescue! By monitoring the Twitter stream, it keeps track of what links are being shared and re-tweeted across the channel. A lightning fast all-business interface gives you a quick top down over view of which links are being shared the most, how many people are sharing it and who!

Even if you’re not a blogger, you’ll love the little gems that AlphaTwitter will give you.

plusplus.gifDid someone go out of their way to help you? Is a web site being particularly slow and flaky? Make your feelings known with plusplusbot. You can ++ (pronounced “plusplus”) or (”minusminus”) anything. Think brownie points (but archived forever).

Of course the first thing you need is a twitter account.  If you don’t have twitter.. oh you just don’t know the addiction your missing!!!  So be sure to check that out first.

So basically how it works you ++ things you like and — things you don’t like (via twitter) and within a few minutes plusplusbot.com is updated with a score (and you’re scored as well with the total number of ++/– you’ve given).

Hmm.. we may have the answer to electronic political voting here! :-)

Oh and while you’re at it, be sure to add me - pfmonaco - to your follow list :-)

pandora.jpg There are so many way to get your music online but not enough of them that can intelligently create an individualized playlist that really works.  But Tim Westergren and the Music Genome Project put together Pandora and changed all that.

By painstakingly analyzing the music of mainstream and not so mainstream artists, they are able to really classify music by an indescribably mash of sonic qualities and genre.

Simply enter the name of ONE artist who’s musical style you are in the mood for and begin your journey.  You can further refine your experience by using a “thumbs up” / “thumbs down” approach.

Once you nail down your exact style, you can even share your custom station with a friend.

Certainly a must try site for anyone who loves music!

Thank you Paulina1 for the tip!!!

idrive.jpgNobody can disagree with the importance of having a good off-site backup plan, but the expense of it tends to put it out of reach for the average home user.  Well, the folks at IDrive-e have a solution.

For free, you get 2-Gigs of remote storage.  More then enough for most people to back up their critical documents.

Just install their fully automated software and you can either active continuous back-up or scheduled.  Choose your folders that you’d like backed up ant that it!  Restoration is just as easy!

Should you outgrow your 2-Gig quota, you can easily upgrade to unlimited  storage for less then $50/year.. (see site for details).

I’ve been running the IDrive client flawlessly for a month now, though I won’t give up my current backup configuration I do enjoy the added confidence of having yet one more backup drive to rely on.

One Number, One Voicemail Box, So many Features.  So infrequently is a products tagline as much of an understatement as this! At first one my glance at this site and shrug it off as yet another google aquisition into the already troubled world of web based IP Telephony.  But a peek at the features list and you’ll quickly go WOW.

The most impressive and unusual feature that appeals to me is the call screening/blocking. send2spam.jpg
Not only can you send callers of your choice directly to voicemail, but you can also present them with “The number you’ve reached is no longer in service” or a customized message of your choice!  Check the “Send this number to SPAM” box and you’ll contribute to it’s spammers database so (by choice) you can sent all suspected spam callers to voicemail without manually entering their number!

I’ve been using GrandCentral several months now in conjunction with forwarding calls from my home phone to my cell.  GrandCentral has virtually eliminated all unwanted calls from disturbing me on the road.

But wait kids… that’s not all!  There’s much more!!!  You can add a call me button to your website, click2call from your address book, access visual voicemail from your mobile phone, transfer calls from your cell to your home or office number on the fly!  Just the tip of the iceberg!  Certainly on the must try list for anyone who uses the phone!

Now this is just plain old too fun!  Your driving down the highway on your long commute home and you spot some joker on a motorcycle wearing speedo’s and you just have to twitter about it!  Sure you can tweet via text messaging on your cell phone, but that’s not really too safe while your driving.. but if you signup up for SpinVox, you can just speed-dial their 1-888 number and your voice will be magically transformed into text and broadcast out to the world!

Not a twitter fan?  That’s okay, SpinVox currently works with Facebook and Jaiku as well as many blogs!

I dont’ know how long this service will be free but it’s certainly a must-try while you can toy!
