For business notebook I’ve been toggling back and forth between IBM’s and Toshibas for most of the past 10 years. Both manufacturers have always come out with machines that have exceeded expectations at our price point of $1000. Typically the decision would boil down to who was running a promotion at the time and what kind of schwag I could get out of the deal :-)

When Lenovo took over IBM’s notebook look I was very worried. I’ve always had durability issues with HP’s and Sony’s when given to non-tech users and was realy worried I’d have to start exploring those lines again to keep my prices in line.

Of course I didn’t abandon the ThinkPad line just because Lenovo took over. The price was right so I took a chance. I’m happy to say that now that I’m on my 3rd line of Lenovo ThinkPads I’m extreamly satisfied. The products reputation is rock solid in my book and though I never tought it was possible, Lenovo’s service is the best I’ve ever experienced!

When I call for tech support, the troubleshooter is never afraid of deviating from the scripts. Once they understand I’m an I.T. person we quickly cut to the chase. If I say I have a bad keyboard, they simply ship me one and not ask me if the machine is plugged into the wall.

The model pictured is my latest purchase, R61i. My only complaint is having to remove much of the pre-loaded software for my applications.

OutTwit

The first paragraph of their website says it all!

If you are an Outlook user, you probably have it open all the time. Now you can update your Twitter status and follow your friends without having to open any other applications. OutTwit seamlessly integrates Twitter into Outlook.

I’ve been a fan of Snitter for a while now and was really apprehensive that their could be an app that could pull me away. If it wasn’t for how well I’ve integrated Microsoft Outlook into my daily planning there would be no reason for me to switch.

OutTwit was an effortless install and so far, other then some idiosyncrasies inherent with Outlook itself it really runs great.

Your Tweets appear as messages within Outlook’s mail section and you can manage them just as you would any other message.  Now the quirky thing for me is that I’m used to dealing with Email, not messages so it is somewhat of a different beast.  My main difficulty is that I can’t seem to get a notification when a new tweet arrives, rules don’t seem to work.  But I’m inclined to think I’m simply missing something within outlook.

THIS JUST IN 3/21/2008:  WOOT WOOT - Thank You Alex!!!

Hi Paul,

We have just released a new version of OutTwit, which has a “Play a sound on new tweets” feature.

Okay, maybe FTPing this 5G file wasn’t such a good idea after all.  It’s been 8 hours so far.  If I have to do this with any regularity it’s going to be time for a fat pipe soon.  Thank gawd for remote logins.
